One hundred percent electric model arrives in 2020
The model, a competitor of the Tesla Model S, will share technology with the Q6 e-tron SUV (planned for 2018), namely the three electric motors (one on the front axle and two on the rear wheels).
In all, the A9 e-tron will have a maximum power that should be close to 500cv and a maximum torque of 800 Nm.
The expected range will be about 500 km. “In 2020 we will have three hundred percent electric models in the catalog”, Audi boss Rupert Stadler told Autocar. “Let’s start with the production version of the e-tron quattro, which will have a range of 500 km. By 2025, 25 percent of our range will be electric”.
Audi also promises an innovative driving experience as the torque vector and quattro system tuning will be specific to these 0 emissions proposals. “Some opponents have opted for a high-density, high-density synchronous motor, but relatively low spins”, explained Audi research and development manager Stefan Knirsch.
“There are also asynchronous motors that normally achieve similar power levels but at much higher revs. From 2018, our electric cars will be equipped with asynchronous motors. We are convinced that they offer higher efficiency levels than synchronous motors”.
