New adaptation of the 80’s cult series
Who doesn’t remember KITT, the car that knew how to talk, how to drive itself and that helped Michael Knight, the Knight Rider?
Well, the iconic TV-series from the 80s is back in 2017 by the hands of Justin Lin, author of two episodes of “Fast and Furious” and “Star Trek: Behind the Universe”.
Knight Rider is an iconic franchiser whose artificial intelligence concepts in autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 80s. Now they’re scientific facts. Justin is one of the precursors story tellers of his generation, and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him and reinvigorate the Knight Rider to a new generation of fans”, revealed Chad Gutstein, Machinima’s CEO, one of the project producers – the others are NBCUniversal and Li’s YouTube channel “YOMYOMF”.
Besides this, little or nothing else is known, specially about the chosen cast, although we know that the classic Pontiac Firebird Trans Am will hardly reincarnate KITT.
“We will give more details about this project in the following months. What we can already advance is to expect a tribute to the original, despite the series having a reflex of the 21st century”, reads the production’s press release.
This is not the first try recovering the series. Back in 2008, Justin Bruening was Mike Traceur, the son of the David Hasselhoff’s character. At the time, Val Kilmer was the one giving voice to the car. In the original version William Daniels was KITT. However, the sequel only lasted 17 episodes.
The revival of Knight Rider will be transmitted in the digital platforms and not on TV, as for example “The Grand Tour”, the new series of the “Top Gear”.
