So far, four rovers have been landed on Mars by NASA.
Even though the conversation about sending humans to the red planet has been a hot topic, it doesn’t seem like there are concrete plans to really make the trip happen. However, it will happen eventually, and when it does, if the brave individuals that make the journey expect to do any exploring then they will need a vehicle to drive on the planet’s surface. Taking that into consideration, NASA has introduced a concept vehicle that the agency is very enthusiastic about even though it is not the most appropriate to be sent to Mars.
The “Mars rover” which is what the vehicle has been named, looks like a mixture of the Batmobile, the Mako from Mass Effect and the Halo warthog. It seems like the vehicle would be more appropriate in the next Alien flick than being driven by astronauts as it is an innovative, manned exploration vehicle which is full of displays and controls that are sci-fi looking and it looks both rugged and extremely intimidating.
Even though the vehicle displays NASA’s own badge on its nose and it was exhibited at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex this is not a NASA product. The vehicle was built by a team of custom car builders who obviously had a specific look in mind other than anything else. Nonetheless, the rover is a very proficient machine which is capable of achieving speeds as high as 70 mph (around 15 mph on Mars) through its electric drive train. Even though you certainly will not see NASA sending the “Mars rover” vehicle into space anytime soon, it sure is attractive to look at.
