It is still in the experimental phase. But it is already possible to recharge the battery of an electric car without physical connections. And, better yet, without having to interrupt movement. Renault proved it with Kangoo Z.E
While charging electric car batteries by induction, wireless but static, is still a promise for the times to come, Renault has already presented a solution that allows this operation to be carried out in movement. A solution created under the FABRIC project, launched in 2014 and organized by a European consortium of 25 partners from nine countries (including car manufacturers, equipment and service providers, and research organizations on automobile, road and energy infrastructures), whose main task is to assess the reliability of the dynamic loading of electric cars with a view to their diffusion.
In this case, the losango brand, together with Qualcomm Technologies and Vedecom, has designed a system capable of carrying 20 kW at speeds than can go up to 100 km/h. A solution whose effectiveness was proven by a Kangoo Z.E and a test track with 100 meters in length, built by Vedecom in the vicinity of Versailles.
Having proved the validity of this technology, it is now necessary to know its practical applicability, because its implementation depends on the road structure. This, of course, has obvious implications in terms of logistics and costs, which are necessarily different according to the latitudes in which it may be adopted. But there is no doubt that the first step is taken.
