If you think that startups for electric vehicles are things for Chinese, or American, you are wrong. In Germany, a young company started to receive orders for its e.Go Life.
Founded by the young German engineer Günther Schuch, the startup e.Go Mobile AG has just started taking orders for its first electric car, a small city car named e.Go Life. Prices start from £14,100, value to which the incentive is given by the European governments for the purchase of electric cars still has to be applied. According to the blog Electrek, the order period has already opened, with the company requesting custumers to pay a £890 deposit.
According to the startup, based at the RWTH University in Aachen, Germany, the base version of the e.Go Life, equipped with a 14.4 kWh battery, can guarantee a range of 130 km. While a variant with batteries of greater capacity, of 19,2 kWh, will make about 170 km with a single load.
The small city car – which has exterior dimensions that do not exceed 3,3 m in length, 1,7 m in width and 1,5 m in height, plus a maximum weight of between 810 and 840 kg, depending on the battery. to be fully recharged it requires between 5h30 and 7h30,, depending on the capacity of the battery.
With just one electric motor, which delivers only 22 kW of power (about 30 hp) and a maximum torque of 110 Nm, the e.Go Life claims to be able to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 5.7 seconds ( 5.9 seconds with the larger battery), while announcing 65 mph as top speed.
With exterior dimensions very similar to those of a Smart ForTwo, although with the possibility of optionally accommodating two more occupants behind, the new German electric proposal can be purchased for a real value of only £10,500, once the “discount” of £3,550 that the German government grants in the purchase of electric cars. Fact, that by the way, makes this model one of the most affordable electric vehicles at the moment.
According to the company, the e.Go is a model that aims to show people that electric cars can be fun, practical and affordable, while still being eye-catching. The manufacturer also believes that it will be possible to manufacture electric cars with such efficiency and reduction in production costs that the value of the acquisition will become comparable to that of a conventional vehicle. As a result, the e.Go Mobile AG uses the Industry 4.0 manufacturing process, synonymous with the interconnectivity between machines, systems and tools, which can operate autonomously. All to seek to ensure a competitive selling price.
The e.Go Life was developed by a group of researchers led by Günther Schuch at the RWTH University of Aachen in order to be the second or third family car, mainly intended for use in the city.
For those who want a car more in their image, the manufacturer has conceived various possibilities of customization, including the possibility of creating an exterior color of its own, thus replacing one of the four exterior paintings available as standard. Halogen or LED lights are another choice the customer can make, with e.Go Mobile AG offering two types of 17 inch rims at this launch stage. To which will be added another one, of 18 “, although only and according to the brochure of the car, from 2019.
