A Porsche Cayenne S Diesel equipped with a 4.1-liter V8 engine with 385cv towed an Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane of today, for a distance of 42 meters.
The Air France airline provided one of its 10 A380 planes for the challenge that took place at Charles De Gaulle Airport on the outskirts of Paris, France.
The task of taking the huge 285-tonne plane, which was not at its maximum take-off weight, it is true – was handed to Porsche’s British technician Richard Payne.
Properly attached to the four-turbine and 73-meter-long aircraft (against the 4.8-meter Cayenne), Payne started “parking” as if it was one of the trailers normally used at airports.
“I was relieved. It could be said that it was a difficult job, but the Cayenne did not complain. The mirrors were filled with Airbus, which was interesting. Our cars can go a little further than our customers can expect, but even so, what the Cayenne did was remarkable, ” commented Payne.
In all, 42 meters of displacement, enough for the Cayenne to enter directly into the Guinness of Records book, surpassing the previous record of 170 tons of the Nissan Patrol V8, which in 2013 towed a Russian freighter Ilyushin Il-76.
